Catering Toronto – Best Catering Services In Toronto

One main question that gets asked quite often is: What does a catering service include other than the food? Do they provide silverware, dishes, and glassware etc?

The simple answer to that is: If you are willing to pay for it, the caterer is likely going to supply it or help you get it. They generally will coordinate with rental companies if they do not own the chairs, linen, glassware, silverware etc. They also usually will give you leads on lateral services – DJs, florists, etc.

You negotiate the items needed with the catering company. They have many options. Of course the wait staff is normally included.

Don’t make catering just about food: A caterer’s job is not just to provide you with food but his job is also to make sure that there’s seamless service from start to finish. He should provide wait staff who are reliable and well-mannered. The caterer’s materials, from cutlery to table arrangements, should be of good quality. A good indication of such things would be how the caterer’s account manager handles your talks. Does he try to solve the minute problems that come out? Is he helpful in suggesting dishes that fit your style and budget? Does he seem too eager or over-promising? You can tell a lot based on your meetings, so be keen in choosing even before the actual event. Remember, there are no dress rehearsals for catering, so to speak.

Start your Search Early: Some are lucky enough to stumble into a great caterer while some have to search high and low just to find the ideal one. Whatever path you stumble into just make sure you start searching early so that you will have more room for error. Ask for reviews from friends how their own caterers fared in their own wedding. Oftentimes, there’s a name that will usually pop out from the rest. It would also be ideal to go through several food tasting sessions with three or four other caterers. This way you can edit some of their menu packages and interchange some of the dishes if need be.

Check with caterers if they could accommodate special requests: There may be times when a guest or a loved one requests for a special dish that accommodates to their diet or lifestyle. Gluten-free, Kosher or vegetarian diets are the most common considerations for specialized dishes. If, for instance, such dishes are too expensive to accommodate, just make sure that the menu is varied and balanced enough so that everyone is able to eat something out of it.

Fresh fruits and fish are great options for the conscious eaters. And it’s ideal to befriend and talk to the head waiter even before the event so that should any guest request for any specialized item, he can easily pass the message on to the chef or have one of his people figure something out.

Below are some Q&A when it comes to wedding catering.

Q: What would be the best food/appetizers to serve at a wedding with a very diverse crowd? Total about 100 people give or take 10 or so that might flake at the last minute.

A: What you choose would depend on regional preferences as well. I’m located in New England. The meals that are familiar here would probably not be the right choice for a wedding located in the southwest or California.

I’m not sure what you mean by diverse, but you should probably consider a vegetarian dish as an option. Also, stay away from nuts and mushrooms, since many people have allergies. Hopefully if your guests have food allergies, they will let you know in advance. If you have a seafood, chicken, beef and vegetarian option, this should cover the bases.

Q: We’ve finally decided that we are going to have a small wedding. It will only be about 50-60 people. How much is the cost catering for 50-60 people?

A: A catered affair let’s you enjoy and prep for the wedding without the worry of cooking. Tough call money wise…if you shop at Costco foods should equal out cost wise to catered so cut out the hassle with food preparation and focus on other important things.

Q: How much is it (approximately) to use a catering service to feed 200 people?

A: Get quotes direct from the caterers. It depends on the menu as much as anything. Give them a brief outline of your needs/numbers and see what they say.

Q: Wedding Buffet or Catered for a crowd of 600 at least?

A: I had buffet at my wedding and it turned out great! I had about 200 guests though. I don’t think buffets have to be tacky. I had my reception AT a catering place but they set the food up buffet style. I personally don’t like upscale weddings, where you are served a 5 course meal, etc. They usually aren’t any fun/pleasurable but that’s totally up to you. Serving 600 guests is going to be difficult either way but I’d ask the caterer to do the buffet.

Below are some Q&A for catering services…

Q: What does a catering service include other than the food? Do they provide silverware, dishes, and glassware etc?

Q: Can catering services offer quality barbeque arrangements? Should i go for a professional catering service provider to make all the food arrangements and rentals?

A: Have a professional do it so you can get on with hosting and enjoying your party. They will also provide cutlery and crockery to save you hiring it separately and more importantly will take it all away after wards and wash it so you don’t have to ask friends or relatives to do it for you after the party. They can also recommend other service providers such as table and chair hire or napkin / linens hire and glassware too. Get one with a good professional web site and recommendations.

Q: Is it legal for a catering server to add a service charge to the bill? When I got the bill, there was a service charge already added of 18%! Is it just me, or does this not sound right?

A: If you booked a catering function you should have checked the catering policy of the business first. It is a common practice to include a surcharge on functions, otherwise most of the staff do not make anything in tip out. Next time talk to an event planner beforehand. They will be able walk you through policies when it comes to set menu’s for restaurants.
