Below are some Q&A for catering services…

Q: What does a catering service include other than the food? Do they provide silverware, dishes, and glassware etc?

A: If you are willing to pay for it, the caterer is likely going to supply it or help you get it. They generally will coordinate with rental companies if they do not own the chairs, linen, glassware, silverware etc. They also usually will give you leads on lateral services – DJs, florists, etc.

Q: Can catering services offer quality barbeque arrangements? Should i go for a professional catering service provider to make all the food arrangements and rentals?

A: Have a professional do it so you can get on with hosting and enjoying your party. They will also provide cutlery and crockery to save you hiring it separately and more importantly will take it all away after wards and wash it so you don’t have to ask friends or relatives to do it for you after the party. They can also recommend other service providers such as table and chair hire or napkin / linens hire and glassware too. Get one with a good professional web site and recommendations.

Q: Is it legal for a catering server to add a service charge to the bill? When I got the bill, there was a service charge already added of 18%! Is it just me, or does this not sound right?

A: If you booked a catering function you should have checked the catering policy of the business first. It is a common practice to include a surcharge on functions, otherwise most of the staff do not make anything in tip out. Next time talk to an event planner beforehand. They will be able walk you through policies when it comes to set menu’s for restaurants.
